Marlena’s Approach to Treatment

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or simply tired of holding everything together, therapy can be a place to sort through what’s really going on beneath the surface. Marlena is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional who provides trauma-informed psychotherapy to individuals ages 14 and older. Her work is grounded in psychodynamic and family systems approaches, helping clients understand how early relationships, life experiences, and internal patterns shape the way they think, feel, and relate to others today.

Marlena specializes in working with individuals navigating complex trauma, anxiety, and relational challenges, including adult children of emotionally immature parents and those impacted by narcissistic family or relationship dynamics. She also works with late-diagnosed Autism and ADHD, as well as women seeking greater self-understanding, empowerment, and balance. Many of her clients present as “high-functioning” on the outside while privately struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, or a persistent sense of disconnection. She helps clients make sense of these experiences, break out of unhelpful cycles, and develop a stronger, more authentic sense of self.

Her professional background includes over 14 years in the child welfare and legal systems, where she developed a deep understanding of complex family dynamics, systemic stress, and crisis environments. This experience informs her clinical work, allowing her to recognize both the individual and systemic factors that impact mental health and relationships.

Marlena integrates trauma-informed care and has completed EMDR training, currently working toward full certification through ongoing consultation. While her work often explores deeper emotional patterns, she also believes therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. She brings warmth, honesty, and humor into the room when appropriate, creating a space that feels both safe and real.

Clients often describe Marlena as down-to-earth, insightful, and easy to connect with. Her goal is to provide a space where clients feel understood without judgment, while also being gently challenged to grow, shift patterns, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.

Marlena currently practices under the supervision of a licensed professional as she continues to advance her clinical training and licensure.
